Trail Description
Trail #1617 follows Killamacue Creek in a steady steep climb to the lake basin, tucked at 7,137 feet in elevation, between Red Mountain and Chloride Ridge. A prominent peak on Chloride Ridge is visible from various openings through the thick spruce and fir canopy along the trail. Occasionally, small meadows appear along the creek, with a large meadow lying in the basin just below the lake. There are good camping spots on the benches surrounding the lake.
Current Conditions
This trail is generally clear of snow from early July to late September. Expect winter debris (down trees, etc.) in the early season. Trail may not be maintained on a regular basis – obstacles on the trail may be present year-round.

Trail is in great shape! Total mileage is just over 6 miles. Parking is just before FS Road 5520 crosses over Killamacue Creek (4.2 miles past the end of pavement from Rock Creek Road). Park in the pullout on the left side of the road. Look for the white mountain goat warning sign. The trail starts directly opposite this sign on the right side of the road up the steep, rocky trail.
